Using Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

by
Steve Medina
Hypnosis to stop smoking can be learned and self taught. Self hypnosis can work to help you stop smoking and you can even download the instructions from the Internet or purchase a book or e-book from a Web site or brick and mortar book store. You can also attend a face to face hypnotherapy session one on one or in a group where the therapist teaches you self hypnosis.
The various methods of hypnotizing yourself to stop smoking might be relaxation tapes or techniques that simply relax your mind, removing from it worries and cares.
Let's take a look at one method of learning self-hypnosis that can teach you to stop smoking, lose weight or any number of positive things like overcoming stage fright. Of course you should not practice self hypnosis when you are operating machinery or driving a vehicle.
Before you start your first stop smoking self hypnosis session choose one or two goals for the session and write them out in detail. Write a few varying suggestions for each goal you document, wording the goal you are trying to achieve a little different each time you do so. This duplication will help reinforce the suggestion you are trying to convey to your own mind and help your unconscious mind except the stop smoking and other goals.
The next thing you want to do is create a vision about the successful attainment of your stop smoking goal. Imagine that you achieve the goal. Think about what that would look like, feel like and be like. Use visions and images that you can relate to, ones that you are familiar with and that mean a lot to you.
When you start your stop smoking self hypnosis session you should do it in your normal tone of voice and at a relaxing pace. As you progress in your self hypnosis session slow down and make your voice softer. This helps you enter hypnosis and at the end of the session you can go back to your regular voice and pace.
Your stop smoking self hypnosis should be in a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be disturbed. Don't use candles - it wouldn't be safe - but do try soft relaxing music and soft lights.
Any relaxation technique such as deep breathing can help you prepare for hypnosis as an aide to stop smoking. You just start to focus on yourself internally and take note of anything at all that you feel or see. Don't analyze it, criticize it, worry about it, or judge it. Just be aware of your feelings and your thoughts and assume that you are going to drift away quite soon. Clear your mind and become calm.
Now you want to count yourself down by using what is referred to as deepeners - going deeper by walking down a staircase, floating down a stream, or riding an elevator down. Count down in your mind as you do that. Now you create your own inner world of peace, a place you'd love to be, a special place of realaxation and paradise. Use every one of your senses to make the experience vivid so you can return there time and again, each time better than the last. Towards the end of this self hypnotic trance give yourself some post hypnotic suggestions. One, of course, would be to stop smoking.
